On an eight week MBSR Program you will learn basic meditation practices and open up alternative ways of responding to what happens in your life. The course is taught by a trained and experienced mindfulness teacher in an atmosphere of trust and exploration.
Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Program
The MBSR course was first developed by Professor Jon Kabat-Zinn in 1979 at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. It has been widely researched over the past 30 years and is at the cutting edge of integrative and preventative medicine. The MBSR program that MindfulnessInAction runs is closely modelled on those of the Center for Mindfulness at the University of Massachusetts, USA.
Where & When
Mindfulness practice offers an invitation to move towards greater balance, choice and participation in life. Through mindfulness training we learn how to bring acceptance and curiosity to all of our experience – sensations, thoughts, emotions and actions, and the situation we are in.
Mindfulness is not something that you have to “get” or acquire. It is already within you — a deep internal resource available and patiently waiting to be released and used in the service of learning, growing, and healing.
What to expect
The program schedule consists of eight weekly two-and-a-half-hour classes and one day retreat (on a Saturday) between sessions six and seven. Morning or evening classes are available. This highly participatory, supportive, practical course includes:
- Guided instruction in mindfulness meditation practices
- Gentle stretching and mindful yoga
- Group dialogue, discussions and mindful communication exercises aimed at enhancing awareness in everyday life
- Individually tailored instruction
- Daily home assignments
- Home practice materials including guided mindfulness practices, handouts and worksheets
